Background

The Library is named in honour of the Revd. Canon Dr Richard Duckett, Rector of St John’s 1876-1910: his was the inspiration that lead to the building of the magnificent church that is now the Cathedral of the Diocese of East Anglia.
The library was established as part of the recent programme of renewing and extending the Cathedral’s facilities. It was blessed by Bishop Michael Evans in 2010 and will open on Ash Wednesday, 22nd February 2012.
The Duckett Library currently has over 3,000 publications. Subjects include biblical studies, theology, doctrine, catechetics, lives of the saints, pastoral issues, liturgy, church history, spirituality, biography, pilgrimage, religious art and other interesting religious topics. In due course, there will be an on-line catalogue to assist distance-browsing.
The fine oak shelving has now been completed thanks to generous funding by the Friends of the Cathedral of East Anglia and the Cathedral Parish. The library is dependent on the income from members' subscriptions and from donations to allow for the provision of new books. For membership subscription rates see application form.
The library will be open on Tues & Thurs mornings 11-1 and after Sunday masses.
Donations towards the ongoing development of the Duckett Library are welcome, as are appropriate books. Cheques can be made payable to ‘The Cathedral of St John the Baptist Duckett Library’
