The Library is named in honour of the Revd. Canon Dr Richard Duckett, Rector of St John’s 1876-1910: his was the inspiration that lead to the building of the magnificent church that is now the Cathedral of the Diocese of East Anglia.

The library was established as part of a continuing programme of renewing and extending the Cathedral’s facilities. It was blessed by Bishop Michael Evans in 2010 and opened on Ash Wednesday 22nd February 2012 by the Revd. Fr James Walsh, Dean of the Cathedral.

The Duckett Library has over 4,000 publications. Subjects include biblical studies, theology, doctrine, catechetics, lives of the saints, pastoral issues, liturgy, church history, spirituality, biography, pilgrimage, religious art, and other religious topics. There is an on-line catalogue, which is in the process of further development.

The furnishing and equipping of the library was funded partly by the Narthex development, with generous assistance from the Friends of the Cathedral of East Anglia, the Cathedral Development Trust and other donors. The library is dependent for income on members’ subscriptions and donations to allow for the provision of new books. For membership subscription rates see application form.

Opening hours are Tuesday and Thursday mornings after the 10 am Mass (approx. 10.45) until 1 pm, Sunday morning after the 9 am Mass and the first Saturday of each month after the 10 am Mass until noon.

Donations towards the ongoing development of the Duckett Library are welcome, as are appropriate books. Cheques can be made payable to ‘The Cathedral of St John the Baptist Duckett Library’.
