Preparation for the Sacraments

Baiptism - Seven Sacraments

Baptism:

The baptism of infants and young children can take place during a Sunday Mass or at any time by arrangement. Either way it is necessary to make an appointment with one of the clergy to arrange a convenient date and time. Preparation classes are held on a regular basis for parents requesting the baptism of their child. Adult baptisms normally take place at the Easter Vigil and are preceded by a period of preparation.

Confirmation - Seven Sacraments

Confirmation:

Confirmation is celebrated by the Bishop in the Cathedral on the Feast of Pentecost each year. Young people are confirmed at 14, after following a special programme of preparation at the Cathedral. Details are announced each year.

Communion - Seven Sacraments

First Holy Communion:

Preparation takes place in the parish for children aged 7-8. It begins in the autumn of each year and is led by Karen Sullivan King and a team of catechists.

Applications are invited from baptised catholic children of the parish who are in Year 3 (or older) from September 2012. The first class is on the 16th September at 3.00pm. We do not take late applications after the course has begun. Please include a copy of your child's baptism certificate. If you are out of parish, you will be required to get permission from your local parish priest. The Diocese advise that you make your application to your nearest parish.

Marriage - Seven Sacraments

Marriage:

Couples are required by diocesan law to give to the clergy six months notice of their marriage. They will arrange with them a course of pre-marriage instruction. To avoid disappointment, it is advisable to book the Cathedral before making any other arrangements.
