After Death

As Catholics, we believe that good people will rise again on the last day and live for ever as Christ has done. We believe that at death, the body and soul are separated, "the human body decays and the soul goes to meet God, while waiting its reunion with its glorified body. God, in his almighty power, will definitively grant incorruptible life to our bodies by reuniting them with our souls, through the power of Jesus' resurrection"

What can I do after someone has died?

Mass Offering

Masses are celebrated daily with a special intention. If you wish to have a mass celebrated for a deceased relative or friend, please contact us. The normal custom is to make a donation for the celebrated Mass. A suggested donation is £5.

Prayer Board

At the back of the Cathedral there is a prayer board. If you would like the parish to pray for your relative or friend, simply write your relative or friend's name on a paper slip provided and attach it to the board. The board is cleared every week.

Light a Candle

Lighting a votive candle is a special way of remembering a loved one. It reminds us of Christ, the true light, and his promise of eternal life through the power of the resurrection. If you would like to light a candle at the Cathedral, there are candle stands all around the Cathedral.
