Curious to learn more about the Cathedral of St John the Baptist? Thirsty for some culture and new experiences? Look no further! From Thursday 7th – Sunday 10th September the Cathedral of St John the Baptist will be a proud participant in this year’s Heritage Open Days. Many heritage sites around the country open their doors for free to welcome people from all backgrounds to explore what they have to offer. St John’s will be open to all as usual, but with the addition of some exciting talks, tours and events. As if this isn’t exciting enough in itself, everything is offered free of charge. Join one of our many tours – experience the dizzying heights of the tower tour or discover usually out-of-bounds areas of the Cathedral on a hidden places tour.
Find out about the Cathedral’s stained glass windows, architecture, history and stories, as well as taking a look at the informative displays of all other Cathedrals around the world whose patron saint is also St John the Baptist, and see how different or indeed similar, our Cathedral is in comparison to those in Africa, America, Europe and beyond! There are also talks and displays on key historic dates, figures and liturgical objects relating to the Cathedral.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday 10-4, Sunday 12-4.
