The Renewal Prayer Group - meets in the Narthex Tuesday 27th August after the 10 am Mass. All welcome!

The Wednesday Prayer Group meets in the Narthex every Wednesday from 7.30 pm - 9 pm.

Father James' Coffee Mornings -  Sadie and John McLean will host the next 'coffee morning' on July 29th at 10.30 am at 5 Cranleigh Rise, Eaton. Everyone is most welcome.

CAFOD - On Sunday 1st August, the Filipino community will be holding a ‘Fiesta' in the Narthex after the 11 am Mass in aid of CAFOD's work in Rwanda. Festive food, music and games for all the family! Parishioners & friends welcome. Tickets £5 and family £10 on the door.

Centenary Garden Party. Sunday, 8th August from 2.30 to 5 pm in the Cathedral Garden. This is a fun event open to everyone - bring your friends and neighbours. Period dress (from Edwardian to modern) is optional but encouraged! Entrance £2 (£5 for the whole family).

The Diocesan Summer Camps for children aged 8-11 and 11-14 at New Eccles School cost just £70. Call Chrissie on 01603 713390 for more details.

From Father Michael and Father Luke: A big heartfelt thank you to all who made our ordination such a wonderful and memorable day. Special thanks to the choir, musicians, altar servers and all who helped with catering and making the cathedral look so wonderful. It is all greatly appreciated, may God bless you all. (Fr Luke will arrive at St John's for the 15th of August).

Oxburgh Hall Mass Friday 23rd July - The coach will leave St John's at 6 pm for Mass followed by a meal at the Bedingfeld Arms. Cost £25. Ring Cathedral Office for menu. All cheques made payable to the Walsingham Association.

On Saturday 24th July the Escorial Choir and Norwich Baroque directed by Christopher Duarte) will be giving a concert in the Cathedral. The music will include pieces by Vivaldi, Corelli, Monteverdi, Scarlatti & Pergolesi, with Judy Ball (solo soprano). A feature will also be the world première of four motets about the life of St John the Baptist, commissioned from the Swiss composer Carl Rütti. The concert starts at 8 pm and tickets may be bought from the Cathedral Shop or Prelude Records 01603 628319.

Norwich Central Churches Together Annual Forum will be in the Narthex on Saturday: 2.30-5 pm. This year's theme is ‘I was a stranger and you welcomed me'. Very topical subject and of particular interest to us at St John's. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Sunday Lunch. These have been popular with the 11am Mass-goers and many thanks to all the dedicated volunteers so far - especially Joanne Graham. However until we have enough volunteers who have a food handling certificate we cannot offer Sunday lunch at present. The solution lies with you! If you can help on a regular basis and are willing to attend the day's course for the certificate then the lunches can resume in September. Please contact Clare, the Narthex Manager, for details.

4th Jul 2010 - 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time The Flower Festival Chairman and Committee thank all those who helped during the week.

Volunteers are required for the maintenance of the existing garden for the rest of the summer.

A big thank you to Jack and Ann Richardson for hosting Father James' Coffee Morning on July 1st and to all who supported it in any way. It was good to see so many people enjoying the sunshine as we raised £135.50 towards the new heating system. The next coffee morning will be on July 15th at 10.30 am at the home of Anna Mose, 7 Benbow Close, Hethersett. Everyone is most welcome.

The 2nd Baptism Preparation Class for parents wishing to have their child baptised will be on Sunday 11th July from 4 pm - 5pm in Cathedral House.

The Very Revd Dr Canon Richard Duckett, first Rector of St John's, passed to his rest on 7th July, 1910, and on the centenary of his death, Wednesday 7th July, at 10 am Fr James will celebrate a Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Fr Duckett. After the Mass a wreath will be laid at the Canon's grave in the Earlham cemetery (catholic section). All are invited.

The Big One 2010 - July 11th. A day of faith, fun and food for young people of secondary school age from all across the diocese. Held at St Benedict's School, Bury St Edmunds. Bob Smith, known to many in the parish, died recently. His funeral will be on Friday, 26th July.

Two of our seminarians will be ordained at St John's on 10th July. One of them, Luke Goymour, will be coming to St John's as an assistant priest in mid-August. Two priests from Colombia will be arriving this Sunday to spend July and August in Cathedral House. They will be learning English before going to Rome for further studies.

27th Jun 2010 - 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time The Centenary Mass on Thursday was a wonderful occasion and a worthy climax to the year.  Many people came from all over the diocese, from schools, convents and parishes, and St John's was well represented.  The Flower Festival gave the occasion an extra dimension-angels and flying doves!

We welcome Father Marek Pabis, a young Polish priest, who will be staying in Cathedral House for the next 4 weeks. He will be working in a parish in the diocese from September.

Volunteers are required for the maintenance of the existing garden-hoeing, weeding and edging-for the rest of the summer - gloves and old clothes required!

Father James' next Coffee Morning  will be at the home of Jack and Ann Richardson at 153 Christchurch Road on July 1st at 10.30 am. Everyone will be very welcome to join us. The following coffee morning will be held in Hethersett on July 15th at the home of Anna Mose.

The Annual SVP Sick Pilgrimage to Walsingham on Sunday 4th July. The bus leaves St John's Cathedral at 10 am, calling at Holy Apostles West Earlham. The bus is free and open to all. Ring 283727 to reserve a seat.

20th Jun 2010 - 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time This coming week is the high point in our Centenary Year. The Centenary Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Michael who will be joined by the bishops of Brentwood and Northampton as well as many priests from the diocese.  There will also be civic and ecumenical guests, representatives from parishes , schools and religious communities and, of course, people from St John's. If you wish to attend the Mass and the reception please add your name to the list in the Narthex and take a red ticket or collect one from Cathedral House during the week. The Centenary Flower Festival begins with a Preview on Wednesday evening and will continue over the weekend. The Cathedral will look stunning so tell your friends...

Thanks to all those who have volunteered to help are reminded that they must report to the sacristy before commencing their duties. Any queries ring Pat and Barbara 01603 458851. Thank you. On Saturday evening there will be a Wine Tasting Evening in the Narthex from 7.30 pm. All part of the Centenary celebrations!

Mass Offerings - Due to the shortage of Masses (which is in turn due to the shortage of priests!) we currently have a huge backlog of Mass Intentions. Apologies to those who are waiting - your Masses will be said in due course. At the moment we are fully booked well into July with several waiting. If you want a specific date, it would be best to give at least two months notice. Thank you.

Sponsored Cycle Ride to Walsingham 31st May - Thank you to all who sponsored the St John's Cycling Group and friends on the recent 100 km ride to Walsingham and back. £400 has been raised in sponsorship money towards a project in Makeni Parish, Lusaka, Zambia.
