Every year, Bishop Alan travels round the diocese and celebrates a Mass in each deanery (a geographic grouping of parishes).

Since ancient times in Rome, the Bishop would process around the city each day of Lent and celebrate Mass in all his parish churches. Each stop is called a “station” from the Latin “statio” which means “standing” or “stop” or “anchorage”.

We are anchored in the Mass. Bishops are encouraged to keep such “stations” around their dioceses in Lent.

On Thursday 7 April, Bishop Alan will keep his last Station at St John the Baptist.

The programme is as follows:

5pm: Holy Hour and Confessions (including visiting priests hearing confessions)
5.50pm: Benediction
6pm: Sung Mass
7pm: Soup Supper in the Hall

All are warmly invited to attend all or part of our Station at the Cathedral.

The Norwich deanery includes the east Norfolk parishes of the Cathedral, St George Norwich, Costessey, Poringland with Loddon, North Walsham with Aylsham and Hoveton, Wymondham with Attleburgh, Dereham, and Sherringham with Cromer.
