The Posada tradition commemorates the search of Mary and Joseph for a place to stay in Bethlehem as they prepared for Jesus’ birth.  In contrast to their experience of “no room at the inn”, we welcome the Posada into our homes and give it a place to stay for one night in Advent.

Over the last 21 days of Advent the Posada statue of Joseph and Mary has travelled from home to classrooms to school assemblies and prayer groups.   It has been a wonderful opportunity to share a brief time of prayer and fellowship with friends, neighbours and to make new friends as the statue was passed on from family to family.  Our families have also shared their birthdays and anniversaries with us

, making the Posada visits a special occasion for them.No description available.

It is the hope and prayer of all this Advent that the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ brings hope, peace, light and comfort to everyone in the world.

Posada Blessing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, look kindly on those families who this Advent provided shelter to these firgues.  May their actions be but a symbol of their wider generosity to all in need.  Bless these figures of Mary & Joseph and bless and protect the homes they visit.  Bring us all to a deeper sense of Christ’s presence in our lives. We ask this through the same Christ, our Lord.  Amen
